My Story

At the time of starting this blog, my marriage is over. It will hopefully officially end with the court soon. We became separated while living in the same house around a year and a half ago and I moved out a few months after that initial separation.

Beyond the obvious end to my marriage, the tragedy is that we seemed to have it all. I had a wife and two mind-blowing, amazing boys. We lived in a huge home with a boat on the water in a fantastic midwestern suburb. Early enough into my career, I found and worked at a small, fun, software company that was acquired by one of the five largest software companies in the world. We turned this experience into the creation of a successful software consulting firm of more than one-hundred fantastic team members. We bought two vacation/rental properties.

The boys are more amazing than ever. However, the family house makes me sad when I visit it. My consulting firm became barely profitable and I was not interested in working there most days. The condominiums were nailed by three different hurricanes. I came up short as a husband and father and my wife told me that I was no longer her person. The ex-wife and I did not want a divorce, we wanted to be happy. My boys wanted the family to stay together.

During this healing journey, I have learned about what is important, what I should focus on and what I should not worry about. I focus on myself, my family, my friends and my purpose. I have worked hard and have turned my consulting firm around. My children are thriving. I do the best that I can do and I do not worry about the rest. My quest for this knowledge started with the following:

  • An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) via a Hospital’s Stress Center

  • A psychiatrist and four different therapists

  • Two Mental Health Support Groups

  • The SMART Recovery program and meetings

  • My divorce attorney

  • An Online Parenting Class

  • My State’s Parenting Guidelines

  • Master’s level Philosophy studies

  • My twin flame who should really be a divorce consultant

  • Grateful Dead Tribute Band Music Festivals

  • Many amazing books

This was just the start to my journey to learn and to excel as best as I can.
