Looks like Rain > Here Comes Sunshine > Scarlet Begonias

Upon the initial separation with my soon to be ex-wife, I went through a period where I would listen to sad relationship songs over and over. Perhaps my favorite one is “Looks Like Rain” by Grateful Dead. Lyrics here:

The lyrics are great and Bob Weir is perfect with it.

I also get a big kick out of the “street cats making love” metaphor. The lyrics poetically frame this misunderstanding, suggesting that what might sound like conflict or aggression to outside observers is actually part of a different, more instinctual process. The creatures are simply trying to survive and perpetuate their species.

Nowadays I’m drawn to songs of hope and love. For example, “Here Comes Sunshine” by Grateful Dead. Lyrics here:

The song’s lyrics evoke a sense of optimism and the idea that brighter times can follow difficult periods. The song can also be seen as a message of strength and the ability to find light even in the darkest of times.

And you cannot beat when “Scarlet Begonias” by Grateful Dead hits your ears. Reminds me of my own, personal, cute, little scarlet begonia. Lyrics here:
